Orality as Cultural Phenomenon

II. Orality as a cultural phenomenon

Starting with  Walter Ong's theory on orality we will move to newer ways of  analysing orality as part of a continuum or in its dialectical relationship to written text. The status, role, history and social identity of  orality in different types of cultures will also be analysed.  The paradigm shift in the way we look at writing and orality in the  ancient world will be briefly touched upon since it was part of the preparatory cycle before the Misano Seminar. This section of the presentations will focus on the ideological and sociocultural perspective on orality in all its different manifestations and its relation to Bible translation work and practice.
